Easy Bread Pudding Recipe (With Brown Sugar Sauce)

Spread the love

I have a sweet tooth, I have to admit that I can let my self convince quite easily for a delicious dessert.
If you offer me bread pudding, it’s game over! I’m not even thinking about anything, it’s so good and comforting.

I’m presenting a new version of bread pudding slightly different from classic bread pudding, but decadent and tasty nonetheless.

What Is Bread Pudding?

We can trace back Traditional bread pudding to the 11th century! English cooks would repurpose bread left over.

Bread pudding wasn’t the decadent and delicious dessert we enjoy today. On the contrary, it was a mix of bread, boiling water, sugar, and spices.
It was enjoyed by the lower class hence where it got its name ”The poor man’s pudding”.

The 13th century took a new way and added eggs and milk to the original recipe which was later brought to the USA from English colonies.

Ingredients To Make This Savory Bread Pudding

All-Purpose Flour: I don’t recommend any substitution for the flour except maybe whole wheat flour.

Softened Butter: It takes around 1h to get softened butter, if you don’t have it handy, don’t melt the butter! Instead, rape the cold butter and let sit on a plate for 10-15 minutes.

White Sugar: Granulated white sugar works best for this recipe.

Eggs: To keep the composure of your cake.

Milk: I use 2% milk, you can replace the milk with almond milk or oat milk.

Vanilla Extract: Subtil but makes a difference.

A Pinch of Salt: Don’t skip the salt! It helps enhance the flavor of the other ingredients.

Brown Sugar Sauce For Bread Pudding

35% Cooking Cream: I prefer using 35% cooking cream because of its thickness and ability to resist heat.
You don’t have 35% cooking cream? No worries, you can use 18% cream without much of a difference.
You can also replace 1 cup of 35% cooking cream with 3/4 cup of milk and 1/3 of butter.

Brown Sugar: What would be a brown sugar sauce with brown sugar..!

How to Store Leftover Bread Pudding

It’s best to store the bread pudding in the fridge. You can slice your bread and pour your sauce all over it and let it soak all the goodness.
It will stay fresh for 4 days in the fridge.

Can You Freeze Bread Pudding Cake?

Yes! You can freeze this delicious bread pudding. That being said, make sure to freeze the bread separately from the sauce.

Place in an air-tight freezer-friendly container and freeze it for up to 2 months.
